To visit the Abu Mount is a beautiful experiment. Of course, it is rather far; do not believe people who say that it is close to Udaipur. Do not believe the roadmap which seems to validate this impression. Rather organize your voyage to go from Jodhpur to Mount Abu, then go in Udaipur, via Ranakpur (or the reverse i.e. Udaipur -Ranakpur-Jodhpur ). You will optimize the inevitable kilometers and make the most of the picturesque drive .
The landscape is astonishing at this altitude of 1200 meters. The small city, also, is a typical and completely pleasant. One comes here especially to visit the illustrissimes temples jains. But you will see that it is not all.
First of all, the complex of the jain temples, called Dilwara.
The temples are five. Two more famous are the temple of Vimala Vasahi, dedicated to Tirthankara Adinath (the first of the Prophets of Jains), and the temple of Luna Vasahi, devoted to Neminath, 22nd Tirthankara (of the 24 on the whole). All out of white marble of an immaculate whiteness, almost unreal.
Entirely and finely engraved pillars gracious celestial dancers and other characters, garlands of open stonework, cupolas decorated with marble flowers of an incredible smoothness: to say that one remains amazed in front of such an amount of beauty makes a little mièvre.
And in the central sanctuaries, as in the peripheral galleries, notice the hieratic hundreds of statues with the particularly expressive eyes of black enamel, . They are Tirthankara, the very venerated Prophets of the Jain religion.
Surroundings
The whole of the temples of Dilwara does not constitute the only valid visit with Mount Abu.
If one is not saturated with temples, one will go to Achalgarh, with ten kilometers by a small mountain road. There the small Hindu temple of Achaleshvar Mahadev is. A priest will have a pleasure of showing you the print of the big toe of the Shiva god: he opportunely blocks the lower worlds, obviously underground. From this place emanates a particular atmosphere.
Having returned in Mount Abu, you can rest yourselves by boating on the lake. And if it is the hour, donot fail to return at the Sunset Point. It is a fabulous place which dominates the plain of Gujarat of almost thousand meters à.pic.
