Baroda
The town of Baroda, also named Vadodara . The city has a a deep trace of the beneficial influence of the Gaekwar dynasty (this name has as a significance "Guards of the Cows"), enlightened sovereigns who founded public colleges and hospitals, buildings and museums.
The Municipal Museum (City Museum) is a fine victorian style building. Special reference to, a very beautiful collection of statues of stone and bronze of various times (superb Ganesh de Samalaji, large votive lamps of Nepal, the Divine Mothers, of Tirthankaras of bronze, old bronzes tibétains...).
The E.M.E. is an army institution on the army. It created a temple of Shiva Dakshinamurti, of modern architecture and design , dedicated to all the branches of the Hindu religion. In the garden which surrounds it, several of ancient statues are disseminated.
The Palace of the Royal family , presently Lakshmi Vilas Deluxe Hotel, built between 1880 and 1890, is an astonishing monument of more than 150 meters length, juxtaposing various styles, Indians and Europeans. The rooms worth visiting, Durbar Hall, etc, are impressionantes by their width, the prodigal use of marbles of color, the glosses.
Some other places downtown deserve a fast visit: Kirti Mandir (early 20th century), building where the members of the royal family are honoured with marble statues ; closeby is a recent temple with a little banal Trimukha Shiva (Shiva with three faces).
