La Durbar Square (place du Durbar) à Bhaktapur

Third of the royal cities of the valley of Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, which one also calls Bhadgaon, profited from remarkable restorations which enabled  to preserve its old seal completely, on the contrary other cities which, beside a "historical" district, show modern extensions of a taste and an architectural interest debatable...

Here still, all turns around Durbar Square power station. A whole side of this place is occupied by the royal, easily recognizable palace by its large and splendid Porte of Gold (Sun Dhoka) to the divinities carved in sculpture , according to a specific technique of pushed back brass

One can visit the  interior of the Palace, a court decorated with a beautiful basin, and an interesting museum

The outside of the Palace, on Durbar Public garden, is more known under the name of "Palace with the 55 windows"

On the place, in front of the Palace, stage a whole series of temples: small temple of Shiva (of north  Indian style and not népali), temple of Krishna, temple of Pashupatinath (with its erotic sculptures), temple of Vatsala Durga, elegant octagonal temple (entirely rebuilt) of Chyasilin Mandapa, in front of which are two splendid bronze dragons. One will take guard, especially, not to forget some statues isolated from stone, of a splendid invoice, representative Bhairav (form of Shiva), Narasimha (incarnation of Vishnu), a tantric form of Durgâ and, in another register, the famous surmounted column of the bronze statue of king Bhupatindra Malla.

 

While continuing the walk towards the east, one arrives very quickly at a second great place, Taumadhi Tole, where two remarkable temples are located:

Le temple de NyatapolaThe temple of Nyatapola, dedicated to the tantric shape of the Godess Lakshmi, Shakti of the Lord Vishnu . This temple of almost 30 meters height has five stages (one saw in Patan, with the temple of Kumbeshvar, that the temples on five floors are rare). One is impressionnné to climb the  access, whose steps are kept, on both sides, by stone animals, mythical or not

The temple of Bhairavnath, practically located opposite the precedent, is equipped with a rather massive rectangular form

Not far from Taumadhi Tole, is the picturesque place of the potters

But it is by continuing the walk towards the east, by an animated and tortuous street,  one arrives at Tachupal Tole, picturesque place around which are gathered interesting monuments.

The temple of Dattatreya, another name (local) of Vishnu (the entry of the temple is kept besides by the eagle Garuda, vehicle  of the god).

Old monasteries (math), whose remarkable Pujari Math enorgueillit of the most beautiful wood window carved of the area, window with the peacock, and contains a beautiful museum of wood, remarkable in particular by statues of divinities.
