On the road to Madras (Chenai), to 75 km from Bangalore, Kolar announces itself only by the temple of Kolaramma. One enters there by a gopuram Vijayanagar whose porch decorates remarkable illustrations of bharatnatyam postures.

In the court, the southern wall of the temple carries inscriptions of Chola time. The interior of the temple shelters a cella where is a series of Mâtrikâ accompanied by Ganesh. The goddess on the left, Châmunda, are not very visible. It is it whom one honours here under the name of Kolaramma.

Gigantesque Ganesh de 10 mètres de hauteur  Close to Kolar,is the village of Chokkunahalli,which has one  of the  largest statues of  Ganesh in  India  at  the Chinmaya Sandeepany Temple ,10 meters height and sitting on  a  piedestal. Inaugurated (Mahâbisheka) on  February the  10th  1998.

The temples at Mulgabal ,Kurudumalle are also worth a visit .
