Goa

land ,and iron and manganese.
Alfonso
de Albuquerque, a Portuguese led a fierce battle and conquered Goa
in 1510. Goa attained its freedom in 1961, after 450 years of Portuguese
rule.

Vela
Goa-
the old capital Cathedral
of St. Catherine da se, is the largest church in Goa
and the finest expression of Baroque architecture in India.
Basilica de Bom Jesus, is a small chapel
that houses the remains of St. Francis Xavier. The glass coffin
is enclosed within a locally crafted silver casket. The tomb was a
gift from the Grand duke of Tuscany.
Monastery of St. Francis of Assisi has a gilded
interior and a museum displaying Hindu relics from temples of 10th
to 12th century.
The Augustine tower is interesting
and spell binding.

Ponda-
is the area for temples Shri
Mangesh Temple and the Mahalsa Temple
were both removed to their present locations between the 16th and
17th centuries to protect them from the marauding Portuguese.
Goa's
main tourist attraction most convincingly are its beautiful breathtaking
beaches.
Arambol, Vegator and Anjuna Beaches beaches
lie in the North of Goa. Anjuna and Candolim are separated by a low
hill. Canlangute beach is a stretch of five
beaches over four miles. Aguada fort is a
well preserved fort near Panaji.
Miramar Beach and Dona Paula,
the bay formed by the delta of the two rivers make a vivid colour
contrast.
